How to calculate gas mileage?+

Divide distance by fuel used. Example: 400 km ÷ 32 L = 12.5 km/L. For MPG: miles ÷ gallons.

What is the difference between MPG US and UK?+

A US gallon is 3.785 liters while an Imperial (UK) gallon is 4.546 liters. So UK MPG values are about 20% higher than US MPG for the same efficiency.

How to convert MPG to L/100km?+

Use L/100km = 235.215 ÷ MPG (US) or 282.481 ÷ MPG (UK). Our converter does this automatically.

How much fuel do I need for a 500 km trip?+

Fuel = Distance ÷ Efficiency. At 15 km/L: 500 ÷ 15 = 33.3 liters. Our Fuel/Range mode calculates this instantly.

How is CO2 emission calculated?+

Burning 1 liter of petrol releases ~2.31 kg of CO2; diesel ~2.68 kg/L. We multiply fuel used by these standard emission factors.

Is km/L better or L/100km?+

They measure the same thing inversely. In km/L higher is better; in L/100km lower is better. km/L = 100 ÷ L/100km.
